Hong Kong inspired waffles are pretty famous and a regular feature of China Town. Last year, I was introduced to a pop-up bubble waffle street vendor at Ancient Market Place, Kingston Upon Thames. This year, they have opened a store in the prime location of Blackfriars Rail Station, next to Tate Modern.
Yam Yam Bubble Waffles is a small family run startup whose waffles are filled with all-natural ingredients from UK sourced suppliers. The waffles are artistic with a hollow egg-shaped design but light on the stomach due to the few ingredients. I really enjoyed the crispy bite of my blueberries bubblegum sauce whipped cream waffle stick. The waffle was crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The sauce was sweet but the blueberries were very fresh. You can also go for this fruitier option of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries whipped cream raspberry sauce waffle.
Unlike other competitors, Yam Yam’s specialise in bubbles waffle with either sweet and savoury toppings. So, if you are not looking for dessert, try a breakfast or lunch waffle snack instead. The savoury menu on their website is sure to excite such as their House Special Fried Chicken & Yam Yam bubble waffle. So pick one up on your lunch break if you pass by Blackfriars station.
If you are a little like me and this store is a bit little far away, why not have fun in the kitchen, trying out this Nordic Ware Egg Waffle Pan
for your own delicious waffles. You probably can’t beat Yam Yam’s secret mix of ingredients but at least you can make your own recipe and toppings.
